If the quotes we are hearing are correct, he was way out of line,
almost unbelievably so for someone in his position. Perhaps in his
subconcious mind he really wanted out of the job. Things like that
happen.
He was stuck with a reporter for a month because of the Iceland no fly
thing and I imagine some of the things he said were not really
intended for publication. I agree, a military guy does not really have
the freedom to speak candidly about the CnC.
I think there should be more speaking up. MacArthur was opening the pie
hole even against the Joint Chiefs of Staff on how to run the war. If
more generals had spoken up in 1965 era when I was drafted, maybe we
would have a hell of a lot names on the wall, and we would have been
victorious if at all possible. This guy was saying that Obama came to
meetings unprepared and his aids were total doofuses. Not on how we
should be dropping nukes, etc. per MacArthur. When he retires, I would
like him to speak up about the rules of engagement, and how they are
killing our soldiers.
And was Vietnam worth it?
I doubt it. Total waste of blood and resources and didn't change the
outcome. If the enemy can't be broken quicly, they must be annialated
as in dead. Otheerwise you are just a target for some sexually
frustrated jack ass wanting Jihad.
