I am running mine 4" above the stock position without one. The main
"blow out" problem is on hard turns where the wash from the outboard
pontoon starves the prop and I doubt a fin will help that.
My impression was there were to help pop out small planing hulls and
sweeten the trim a bit. Trim is really not much of an issue on a
pontoon until you get a huge motor.


I had a big time cavitation issue on my RIB dinghy when I went to a
Honda 4 stroke from my old Merc 15. THe whale tail helped a lot as
well as getting it up on plane a lot faster. It was a good
investment.
