I hadn't looked at the prices. That is pretty high for a dinghy to be used
for hauling supplies and people, banged into docks and rocks and dragged
across who knows what.
Can build that 8' stitch and glue for a heck of a lot less in the garage and
not be afraid to ding it.


A friend just built a 10 ft. plywood, stitch and glue, dinghy and was
bragging about using "imported plywood". I asked him what it cost him
to built the boat and he said 5,000 baht (about US$ 160). I doubt that
number as he probably didn't include the paint and some of the bits
and pieces that he already had, but I'd guess that one could easily
built one for $250, or a bit less.

As I said, they sure are purty but I can't see humping the jerry cans
of diesel, water, the bag of charcoal for the barbecue, greasy engine
parts and all the other junk one hauls back and forth to a cruising
boat in one.

But absolutely the correct boat for the annual club cruise :-)
