From wiki:

The Ludlow massacre refers to the violent deaths of 21 people during an
attack by the Colorado National Guard on a tent colony of 1,200 striking
coal miners and their families at Ludlow, Colorado on April 20, 1914.

the right wing will, of course, say they were commies and deserved
what they god. they DARED to question the wisdom of those who were
their masters...the great rich humanitarians.

What they should have done is just shut the mine down and fire them all.
Give it 2 or 3 months and most would move on.

Unfortunately it was also a period of ramp up for WW I and poor
employment environment in the US. The ore was needed unless of course
you wanted to speak German.

The economy functions best when unemployment is very low and demand for
employees is high. It forces employers to treat and pay well, or no one
needs to work for them.

Unions are nothing more than little mafias protecting the inept, lazy
and useless. Many people in union shops need to get so fired, but you
can't. Letting a business fire the losers is essential as hiring.
