If the Dell is bought under a company name, the support is US based.

Proprietary parts with ridiculous prices, similar to the PS/2 line
that sunk the IBM PC


Compaq used to be the WORST when it came to proprietary parts. Office
I worked for (a LONG time ago!) had a 286 Compaq that the modem went
out on. You didn't just go to the store and buy a generic modem card.
I asked why, the service guy said that just about every part in that
computer was proprietary. HP computers used to be the same way.
