I don't know if Evinrude made drastic changes from year and models, on
the v4's but my pontoon has from what I can tell, a 1976 85 hp
johnson 'Sea Horse' with a long shaft. but my spare engine is a 115
short shaft. and I really don't know what 'model' it is, but it's
probably about a late 60's with the rounded hood. I thought I'd
investigate to see what differences if any there was on the lowers
because I'm thinking about using the 115 on the 30 ft pontoon which
obviously would require making the modification. the 115 is electric
shift, and the 85 isn't...that I know of.
An electamatic? Good grief. :)
The gears might be different in the lower units, as might the diameter and
teeth on the drive shafts.
Do either of those outboards you have run?
Might be better to sell both to Froggy and get a nice new 4 stroke outboard.
Right...froggy could re-package 'em and resell them as life support
system backup generators.
