I have no idea what it would cost to do what you want for an
existing old boat but it will probably be more than you expect.

There's absolutely no question about that, usually two or three times
the original estimate. *And the more you dig into an old boat, the
more you find to fix. It doesn't stop, and in the end you still own an
old boat. * Unless it has genuine antique/collector value it almost
never pays to do an extensive restoration. *There are too many good
used boats out there that don't need much work (at least at first
glance).

There's an old saying that goes something like this: *"If you want to
work on a boat, build one. *If you want to use a boat, buy one."

There's nothing wrong with working on boats. *I've done a lot of it,
but it's important to understand the value equation.

I would take that a step farther and say "if want to use a boat RENT
one".

Another step.

"If you want to use a boat. buy gas and go out with your friend who
has one..."
