Cozumel was a tourist trap and a crappy one at that.
Cancun is the very definition of tourist trap. If you've not been to
Chichen Itza, a good place to explore on the way is Valladolid and the
nearby ruins at Ek' Balam.
I would like to see the pyramids and ruins. *Too bad Cancun went to hell.
