Default Looking for a marina in British Columbia

I have a 42' LOA, 23' beam catamaran that I'm bringing over to North
America from New Zealand, and I need a berth for it for an extended
period in BC somewhere. I plan to arrive around May 1st.

I have tried to contact marinas via e-mail, but no one seems to have
anything for a boat with my beam.

A few questions:

1. Got a tight budget or lots of money? If lots of money, you can find
places in Vancouver. Prices range from $11/ft/month (annual rate) at the
top end to ~$8/ft/month.

2. Somewhere in BC is like "somewhere in NZ". It's a big place. Got any
preferences? The further you get from Vancouver, the cheaper it will get.

3. Will you be living on the boat? If so the government small craft
harbour facilities are cheaper - but you are there at the mercy of the
fishing fleet. If they need the space, you have 24 hrs to find other
moorage. Do you want to do a lot of work on the boat? Could it be on the
hard? Shelter Island Marina, Richmond might be good for that in their long
term storage area. There are also lots of places to anchor for free long
term if you are living aboard.

Some options:

- I know somebody who keeps his 36' cat on a free mooring in Courtenay, BC
(about 1/2 way up Vancouver Island, 2 hour ferry ride + 2 hour drive from
Vancouver)

- There are slips available right now at Lynwood Marina, North Vancouver but
they wanted a 25% premium for a catamaran. I objected on general principal
because it was a side tie and I wouldn't be taking any more dock space than
a monohull.

- We have a 40' LOA, 23' beam catamaran that is located in Nanaimo BC.
We're going to move it to Vancouver at the end of March. It's on their
Visitor dock and they might want it clear for summer but they might make a
deal for you for annual moorage....Here's their site

- Point Roberts Marina is just over the border in Washington State and is
about as cheap as the cheap Vancouver marinas.

Good location for cruising the Gulf Islands, not as convenient for Vancouver
dwellers.

Good luck and feel free to ask more questions.
