Oh goodness, from whispered rumors to God's ears...
RadarOnline is reporting that Chief Justice John Roberts is "seriously
considering" stepping down from the Supreme Court "for personal
reasons".
Roberts, a staunch conservative, was appointed by President Bush and
has served on the court since 2005. While RadarOnline doesn't give a
reason for the possible retirement, Roberts, 55, has suffered two
seizures, in 2007 and 1993. Time magazine speculated in 2007 that
Roberts may have epilepsy. However, the Supreme Court said after the
2007 seizure that Roberts was "fully recovered" and a neurological
evaluation "revealed no cause for concern."
Sources told RadarOnline that retirement announcement could come "at
any time."
A spokesperson for the Supreme Court has not yet returned a request
for comment from Huffington Post.
You gotta be kidding me...
I'm not. Could be a more pivitol and lasting event than health care
reform, if it comes to pass during Obama's term.
Getting to name a new chief justice?
I'm going to immedately join Seniors for Seizures. Want to make
certain Roberts has whatever resources he needs to move on with the
rest of his gifted life.
RadarOnLine has pulled the story. Sigh. I figured it was too good to be
true.
On a more rational note, I read that Sandy Levin has been named acting
chairman of the House Ways and Means Committee. Sandy is a top-notch
guy. I met him a long time ago when I worked for the NEA and he was
making a run (unsuccessful) for the governor's job in Michigan. Sandy
was classy enough to help out a fundraiser for the guy he beat in the
Democratic primary, an interesting fellow named Zolton Ferency. The
fundraiser was a showing of the movie "Z" - the Costa Gavras thriller.
Everyone in politics was far more literate in those days.
Now, we have Scott Ingersoll, Herring, Loogy, Jackoff and the rest of
the chumps, the literal and cultural illiterates.
