I brought my old Autohelm 800 home because the nylon part that threads
into the push rod and then fits onto the tiller had broken off. *I
discussed making a new part from g10 with my machinist and he said it
would work. *I thought I'd come in nest week and do it but when I got
here today he had already made it.. *This part will not break or wear
like the old nylon one.
Slowly, we may build up an list of special boating parts we can make
from g10. *I am also thinking of having them make "deck organizers"
which are arrays of pulleys thru which sailboat lines pass to direct
them back to the cockpit. *Another possibility is for less expensive
halyard locking devices (I forget the actual name) for these that
consist of a vertical cam that locks a line in place.

Are you referring to a...cam cleat?

:)

"Rope clutches" is the name. Cam cleats are odften made from a
material similar to G10. My Switlik rope clutches have an aluminum
body with the cam made from a composite material.
