Rolled over the 401K (US) and the Canadian defined plan to a LIRA, all
in
the spring of 2008 before the markets tanked. Impecable timing to be in
cash going into a wild assed market dip. You betcha, I knew when it was
time to leave as being an expat stranded and no GC, no thank you.

If you don't have a contract with some assurances, you never stay with a
company on a nose dive. BTW, they have since adjusted the defined plan
down and want more employee contributions - but can't touch me.
Sometimes
it just pays to do this. Did this back in 1995 with NorTel too.

The only guarantees in life is someone is going to try to screw you, and
the smart stay one step ahead.

Fortunately, for us, you won't be allowed back in the US.
