I agree. One of my internet friends was an economics professor at a
large midwestern university and now he works at the fed. I had these
arguments with him about the illusion of prosperity in the 90s and he
simply could not imagine a housing collapse on the scale we had.
I am also not much of a fan of the MBA programs. We have people with
business degrees who were taught by 3d generation professors who never
actually ran a business.
Just to put this in a perspective you can understand, GW Bush has a
Harvard MBA degree.

I worked for a company started by a Stanford MBA professor. Company did not
do well until they brought in Ray Noorda to turn it around. A couple years
ago, I am talking to a guy who took a course from him at Stanford. He told
of a guy in the class from France. He said one of the only guys on campus
with a Ferrari. He got in a debate with the teacher and the prof said that
was just the way it is. French guy closed his book, got up and left
Stanford over the idiocy. Went back to France and started Swatch Corp. Not
real business experience in the teacher land.
