I can still remember Ford's "quiet man" campaign where they got rich
people who owned super luxury cars to drive a Ford and then say how much
quieter it was than their own car. I wonder what happened to that concept.
Hardly fits in with the Pinto gas tanks and the Explorer tires does it.
I remember those ads. They were associated with the introduction of the
1965 Ford models, which was a total re-design from the older frame and body
design that had existed from 1960 until 1964.
The ads included audio measurement gear that actually showed that the '65,
full sized Ford was more quiet than a Mercedes or Caddy.
They were. Those Fords were a revolution in lower cost car design that rode
well and were quiet.
Too bad the frames rotten out in a few years, but that was a minor detail.
