Anyone in on the jumper pool?
http://www.jumperpool.com/home.htm

I have seen some talked out of jumping by the Highway Patrol as I
crossed the bridge. Seen some that stop to just get a snapshot from the
top and then get a fine for stopping. There are cameras to catch the
picture takers. They can mail you the ticket if you think about
stopping.

It's still a hell of a view at 65mph.

My recollection is that a local (to SF) radio "personality" had a pool
about when the 1000th jump from the Golden Gate would happen. The bridge
authority stopped publishing the number, since they were concerned that
it would encourage troubled people to jump.

This one had so many jumper at first I believe that is how the web site
started.

I used to work with a nut that would parachute to an awaiting
boat to get out of Dodge fast. He would come to work and brag about it
after the fact. I would have liked to have seen it but I think he feared
the authorities might get wind of it first and be waiting below some
place.

I spent 3.5 hours in a traffic jam on the Oakland-SF Bay Bridge because a
guy was threatening to jump. General consensus was we should go push the
ahole off the rail. Maybe they should put a diving board on the GG bridge
so the jumpers go in to a netted off area. Make for easier recovery and
they will not hit a passing boat or the top of Fort Point buildings. Both
have happened. Luckily the boat hit was a 50' boat, the jumper hit the bow,
so the boat did not sink.
