I always heard the weakness was the rotor seals
thjey eventually got great rotor tip seals. *end seals were not a problem.
Emissions were the worst part. *Wankel engineer talked to my engineering
class at San Francisco State and said all the changes for emissions reduced
the power and mileage lots.
I think that R&D could have developed the engine design into being
qite a contender ...eventually. But it would have taken too long for
market etc, and with the newer technology advances, somebody could
probably still do something with it and make it effective.
