underestood hatteras seem to be a unpredictable place in springtimes
with cold water and rougt sea. What are other *good to know* things?

I haven't exactly sailed from Miami, but from West End (Grand Bahama)
to NY in May/June 99. I had intended to go directly to Charleston, but
had to make a stop aat Port Canaveral (the marine toilet had come off
its bolts..). Better keep a sharp eye on squalls in the Gulf Stream;
the squall cloud may not pass directly over you but the ind ill pipe
up quite a bit, so reduce sail hen one seems to come within 3 or 4
miles. From Charleston I went to Beaufort NC where I entered th ICW
(didn't like the idea of flirting with Ca[pe Hatteras) here the 4'10"
draft and 41' height of my 29 footer's mast presented no problem (I
took 4 days to reach Little Creek (just inside the Chesapeake
bridge/tunnel at the entrance of the bay). From there it took a long
overnight to Cape May and another overnight to NY. My boat is equipped
with a windvbane, a Navico T100 (useless in the ICW's narrtow
stretches) plus a Furuno 1621 radar that's quite useful for a single
handing senior citizen
