If you fire a live shotgun round in a flare pistol you will likely be
picking it out of your teeth and other inconvenient places. Tests
have shown that they are not even up to firing a .410 shell with a
steel reducing sleeve in the barrel.


Even if the launcher could handle the force, the range would be about 3
feet. The burn on a shotgun shell is most likely designed for at least 16"
barrel.
