I simply do not own anything worth stealing and my boat looks old
enough to not be worth any effort although she works well. My
strategy is to simply look as if my boat is not worth the trouble to
even board.

Wasp and hornet spray can shoot 20 to 30 feet. No one will question you
having it.

I like that idea. Keep the .357 as a back up.
