Not to worry...you wouldn't want to live in SW Florida. Nice place to
visit, though. :)

I did the Orlando, Tampa, St Petes thing with the family a number of years
ago.
Except for the warm temps,,,didn't see any compelling reason to return.
When I do...it'll be the South Miami down through the Keys tour.
There are lots of neat Caribbean Islands I'd like to see in the meantime.

The thing I like about here is the mangroves and back water that you
won't find in St Pete/Tampa. I had a condo in Treasure Island and my
parents lived there from the 60s. My grandfather lived in St Pete in
the early 50s. I spent summers there for most of my life. That place
went from a sleepy little town with sparsely populated barrier islands
to a crowded dredge and fill metropolis in my lifetime.
That is why I work with the environmentalists here to try to preserve
what we have. The chain of aquatic preserves from Lemon Bay to Estero
Bay is the biggest protected estuary system in the world. It is worth
saving.

I feel the same way about the Chesapeake Bay, but it's needing a lot
of help. We'll see if the 'environmentalists' currently in vogue can
do anything for the bay.
