Jacksonville Conference Confronts Creation-Evolution Debate

Contact: Institute for Creation Research Press Office, 214-615-8398,

DALLAS, Aug. 27 /Christian Newswire/ -- The Institute for Creation
Research, the premiere creation science institution in the world, is
announcing the first of its 2009 Demand the Evidence conferences, to be
held in Jacksonville, Florida on October 9-10.

Scientists, educators, theologians, and even state politicians have
wrestled with the creation-evolution debate in recent years, but which
theory is correct? Creation? Evolution? Intelligent Design?

Does it matter whether the earth was created in six days or six billion
years? Where does the evidence lead?

Held at the downtown auditorium of ***First Baptist Church
Jacksonville,*** the Demand the Evidence Conference will feature
sessions on both science and faith during the Friday/Saturday event.

Attendees will learn biblical and scientific evidences for the accuracy
and authority of Genesis, the complex design of the human body, the
facts that support recent creation, the flaws in Darwin's theory of
evolution, and much more.

Speakers include Dr. Mac Brunson, Dr. Henry Morris, Dr. Gary Parker, and
Dr. Randy Guliuzza. A Q&A panel discussion will be held on Saturday.

First Baptist is the church that gave me the biggest laughs when I lived
in the Jax area. It had its young teens publicly pledge vows of
chastity, only to encounter a huge increase in the number of teen
pregnancies a few years later. Huge church of simpies. Now, it
apparently is funding an institute of cretinists, er, creationists.

Why has every response to Harry's post attacked a person or group of
people instead of debunking the statement, "Attendees will learn
biblical and scientific evidences for the accuracy and authority of
Genesis, the complex design of the human body, the facts that support
recent creation, the flaws in Darwin's theory of evolution, and much
more." Maybe you can't and that bothers you?

While you take a moment out to consider that, could somebody tell me
why these fundies always jump on Darwin? Darwin? Finding flaws in
Darwin's theory and concluding that evolution doesn't exist is a lot
like concluding that Franklin and his kite got electricity wrong, so
today, informed people know that electricity is a false concept.

It is, also, a well documented phenomenon that these poor kids, brain
washed into taking virginity pledges, are just as likely to have sex
as any other teens, but are more likely to do it without protection.
That is sad and leads, for folks that young, to some devastating
consequences that could very easily have been avoided.....

Indeed. While I was still living in Jax, the local newspaper, a
right-wing rag, actually ran the results of a study that tracked
these local "virginity pledge" teens and revealed a much higher number
of unmarried pregnancies, earlier marriages and earlier divorces than
teens "exposed" to the sort of religious craziness practiced in fundie
churches.
