Now that i'm getting back into boating, i was wondering what it is
that the folks here (yes, rednecks and liberals alike) like about
boating.

i like the atmosphere of just cruising along on the water, seeing the
world from a perspective people on land don't see....the ability to
control the boat and decide where i want to go.....putting in at the
dock in the evening and watching the sun go down and the sunrise over
the water the next morning...

your views?

Everything - except thunderstorms.

I enjoy getting ready for a day of boating, packing food, going down
the 'what to bring' list, hooking up the trailer, driving to the ramp,
and launching the boat. There's not a part of it I don't like. Well, I
don't like waiting for my wife to get ready. If I had my choice, I'd
always be at the launch ramp at sunrise, or earlier.

Like you, I enjoy seeing the world from a different perspective. As I
live close to Washington DC, I'm able to launch just north of National
Airport and see the sites from the water.

This weekend we are meeting the kids down at Lake Anna, VA. We'll do a
lot of playing and find a 'boater's beach' to enjoy. Probably my
greatest joy is taking my grandkids out to play on the water.

I used to do a lot of fishing - three times a week or so - in the
Chesapeake Bay. Then my neighbor talked me into playing golf. I became
addicted to the challenge, and an added benefit was the loss of
weight, blood sugar, and cholesterol. All of which made my doctor, and
me, very happy. One of my best fishing buddies died a couple years
ago, and another moved. After not having done any for a while, finding
someone who likes fishing is getting more and more difficult. I guess
I'll have to put a 'Boat Ho' add on one of the local fishing forums.

Anyway, those are some thoughts.

I love to be out there, far from anything in the middle of nowhere, dead
of night, looking out at the dark and tending a pole.. Sometimes I whip
out a guitar, have a beer and sing to the fish

And you wonder why you don't catch any fish?

Fish can hear you know. *:)

boating? isn't that sorta OT?
