One thing that no one mentioned that I wonder about -- noise level.
Is either motor inherently quieter in most operation? How about the 4
 stroke OBs?

Thanks again for your help !!

This was the main reason I chose an I/O. The noise of OBs really
affects my enjoyment of boating. Reportedly the newer 4 strokes are
much quieter, but they are also very expensive. I know the
conventional wisdom is not to choose an I/O for sal****er use, but my
'96 Mercruiser Alpha 1 has been moored in salt water since 1998. I
clean it out well every year, and with good care and maintenance it
has been very reliable and fairly trouble-free, and I've seen little
evidence of corrosion. So these are guidelines, not necessarily
absolutes. I love the relatively smooth, quiet power.

Brad, Have you had the manifolds and risers looked at? I've had mine in the Bay
since 1997, had the manifolds and risers off two years ago, and am thinking of
doing it again, just to see if replacement is in order.
