Does to me. Got the same carpet.
Have to say I never saw a u-joint in such bad shape.
Hopefully it was just a joint failure and some shaft problem causing
it.

Moto Guzzi u-joints have always been the weak link in the drive train.
They're cheaper than transmissions or final drives.

I think every garage should have an oriental carpet.
