Even those that are not participating in the race may go on to Nova Scotia's
festival July 16 through August 1 http://www.tallshipsnovascotia.com/. So
after that may be your best bet to catch something heading back down the US
east coast.
I hung around the Canal last Tuesday for this same reason. Saw the Pride of
Baltimore as soon as I got there and for the next 5 hours saw pleasure
yachts, buoy tender, seagulls and rain but no more tall ships. I find that
what you see is more a matter of luck than planning. ymmv.
