An urban legend that has been around at least 40 years. I did get some
fake scallops once ca 1965, but they couldn't have been skate wings,
as anyone who has eaten skate wings will know.

Many scumbag fishmongers will call callico scallops "bay scallops."
Not at all the same, but they really are scallops.
