We've been docked at Marsh Harbour for the last couple of days near
the eastern end of Great Abaco Island. Three guys at the dock next
to us mave a mid-size sport fish, looks like an older Hatt or Viking,
nothing fancy. They just came back in from fishing today and
reported hooking (and releasing) two Marlin, the biggest of which they
estimate at 400 to 500 pounds. The three of them took turns fighting
it for over an hour.
Some fish !
We've talked to other folks this week who have been catching small
tuna. I'm guess we'll have to think about installing some outriggers
on the Grand Banks. :-)
I saw one once and it looked very funny, but what the heck.
Well heck - it's not like you don't have the room for it.
Dan's idea is a good one, but I'm not sure I'd want to put all that
stress on the rails. You probably wouldn't need downriggers though - a
couple/three of 10/11 foot heavy surf rods with some Penn Senators run
out in rod holders on the rails would probably be easier and look
better.
Caught plenty of tuna and other pelagic just trolling from the rear rail.
Other than some private sportfishers, You rarely see outriggers in San
Diego. The partyboats and long range boats have no outriggers. They may
fly a kite while anchor fishing.
