| As this ship serves with distinction, it would be deserving if it was
| treated to the opportunity afforded the following ships:
|
| USS West Virginia
| USS Nevada
| USS Tennessee
| USS California
| USS Maryland
| USS Pennsylvania

|Battleships sold for scrap?
Nope. Before that....
Didn't the steel used in the new ship sorta have a similar experience
already?
Have you figured out why Gene would make such a wish for a ship?
His statement was a bit obtuse, but the ships he mentioned were all
damaged at Pearl Harbor, but were repaired and went on to fight in
WWII. Perhaps he's just hoping this ship will go on to fight in the
war on terror?
Hopefully.

I believe it already has.
Did I miss something? What's it done?
Poorly worded on my part. The steel it was made from came back from
an attack and lives to fight back, which is the opportunity the
mentioned ships received.

If that's not it, maybe Gene will clarify.
Most probably that's what he meant. At least I hope so.
I'd bet most of the steel post-war went into building Toyotas.

Now I'll feel much more patriotic in my 4Runner. :)

4Runner? What a POS! The Rav4 is what all the "real men" want to be
seen in these days.

Only if it's Pyrite Pink.

I once shook hands with a pudgy guy who:

Sailed from San Francisco to Hawaii.
Rounded Cape Horn, twice.
Transited the Panama Canal.
Has owned more than 20 boats in his lifetime.
Sailed large boats competitively.
Has been hundreds of miles from land in a powerboat
under his command.

And who set a new record for the most distance covered
and most fish caught in the Chesapeake Bay in the shortest
time!
