Sounds like Brer Rabbit to me. If the GOP moves to the center, esp on fiscal
and defense matters, you can just say whig. On the other hand I don't think
the "values" issues are a real winner for the party of Lincoln.



Here we finally agree on something.

Until the Republican Party divorces itself from the extreme factions of
the "religious right," it will continue to be a party of contradiction:
On the one hand, it touts smaller, less intrusive government. On the
other, the religious right continues to fight for legislating its
religious views on morality, intruding on what people do in their
bedrooms and in the privacy of family decisions (see Terri Schaivo),
the very opposite of a "less intrusive" government.

The problem for Republicans is, they can't win an election without the
religious right.

Makes for quite a connundrum, I'd say.
