The Toyota landcruiser a friend bought in 1970 came with a starting
crank. That is reliable. Starts unaided with a dead battery. A feature
that should be common.

Yep, back when they were THE vehicle for the desert or bush. The
landcruiser, like all Toyotas are now just another road vehicle.
