You do live inland. The Bay is not the ocean. You are just as far
from the the ocean as Atlanta is from Savannah.
The difference is it is all Interstate Hwy. from Atlanta to Savannah, so
you can make the drive quicker and safer. As a side note, you very
rarely use your boat, so what's the big deal.
As far as not wanted to live in states with terrible race relations, it
is time to move out of Maryland. Maryland has a long history of
lynching and mob violence, most of whom were black males.
