Violence is the only way. Piracy will continue until it becomes too
dangerous.

Or it just doesn't pay anymore.

About 98% of those who pick up a stick of dynamite, will put it back.
It says " Dangerous " right on it.

Violence only works if you beat the opposition completely and entirely.
Even then, they may recover in time. Chest thumping usually yields
nothing but more chest thumping in return.
There's no middle ground with a lawless society.

We haven't been able to do that in Iraq, and we won't be able to do that
in Afghanistan. Somalia isn't going to go that way, either.
That's why a war is war. Few rules apply and the objective should always be
to beat the crap out of the enemy until there is nothing left to fight. We
learned that in Korea and Vietnam, but still think we can fight half hearted
"wars". It's impossible. Right, wrong or otherwise the "war" part of our
involvement in Iraq was accomplished swiftly and completely. Same thing
with the initial crushing of the Taliban in Afghanistan.
It's when we back off and try to do the nation building **** that it all
comes apart at the seams.
