They have 2500 ships a year from which to pick. *They have little to
lose by escalating. *The ship crews, owners and those using their
services have plenty to lose.

Rec.boats gun toatin' swashbucklers should volunteer to jump on a ship
and fend these dang "pirates" off. *Maybe this'll give some NRA
members a chance to employ their arsenals.

Couldn't you go do the job armed with a slingshot and a sock full of
quarters?

Cheers!

Unlike fools, I wouldn't whack a hornets nest until I had a
well-thought-out plan.

One that included helping Somalia protect their fishing grounds, help
them police and *prevent illegal dumping of nuclear and toxic waste
off their coast, diplomatic outreach to tribal leaders and a
comprehensive plan that'd keep pirates wondering which boats were
armed.

Then I'd recruit Marshalls who understand how to protect vessels and
crew and handle conflicts at sea.

You and your friends would be used as decoys.

If you were to whack a hornets nest (that is, unless it was either
vacant or dormant in the dead of winter,) then you didn't have much
of a plan anyhow, therefore you would be the fool.

Cheers!
