Worth going or not

OK, now I find from my wife that we will only have 2 nights in the
Keys, I might be able to stretch it into 3. Maybe a couple days in
Lauderdale, maybe 3. Is it worth trailering the Tolman 20 nearly 600
miles one way? Man, I gotta have something to do down there otherwise
Lauderdale bores me silly. My wife knows I'll refuse to go if we dont
do anything interesting so she is sorta using the days in the Keys as
bait so I'll go see the in-laws.
For those kind enough to be concerned, it turns out my 12 yr old
daughter was diagnosed with diabetes officially today. Very, very
weird with no external symptoms, just high blood sugar. Now we have o
do the whole finger prick 3x a day and insulin injections once a day
routine. Better than some I know but dang, so sudden and out of the
blue.
I towed my Sandpiper 565 over 2500 miles round trip to a weekend
rendezvous in August 2007.
It was a bit tiresome, but worth it.
That is idiotic. Maybe 2500 klics, but that is even a little stupid and
wasteful for a weekend. I have towed 400 miles to Oregon of a couple day
run, but I include a couple extra days. Since one does not tow at the speed
of the non towing, even if the speed limit was the same, the extra hours and
the extra fuel adds up. Driving my diesel truck without the boat I get
about 18-19 mpg for a 400 mile trip at 75-80 mph. Towing I get about 13.5
mpg at 65 mph and about 15 at 55 mph. Which is an extra 15 gallons for the
round trip. Plus you have a trailer failure at times. Just driving I could
take the wifes new Venza that should get 25-27 mpg. Which is a 30 gallon
saving. I love having the boat, and have towed it to Tofino in BC, but that
is for 2-3 weeks.
