I am getting a big kick out of this.
One thing for sure. You don't exactly "buy" your rating designation or
qualifications in the military.

At one time, in the Brittish army, you bought your commission.

That was true in the USA, too. Actually, it still is, in a way, though
you don't pay with cash.
