I am considering a Hanse 40 for summer cruising in the Mediterranean.
I need something that is easy to sail with one or two people,
confortable enough for crusing weeks on end and easy to maintain
during the off months. How is the quality and reputation of these
boats? Any special options or equipment to consider when comparing
different boats? Any other comprable EU boats I should consider?
Thanks for your response, Tom.

Wow, what a nightmare. I wonder if this was just a lemon or if they
are all plagued with such problems. What other similar boats should I
be considering? Thanks for the heads up.
I agree it's a nightmare, but to me, it seemed more like the yard did a
poor job of prep than anything else. I doubt all Hanse's have this sort
of problem or we'd surely have smelled the stink by now. Note nobody
posted to the story something like, "They all do that".
I think the lesson is that you need to inspect the boat VERY carefully
before accepting delivery. Stuff like the stanchions not being bolted
down - good grief!!
