WASHINGTON — With Democrats arguing that the economic crisis requires a
large and immediate infusion of government spending, a deeply divided
House of Representatives approved a final version of President Obama's
$787 billion economic stimulus plan Friday afternoon.
After about 90 minutes of debate, the House voted 246-183 largely along
party lines to approve the legislation, which includes $46 billion for
transportation projects, $40 billion to extend and increase unemployment
benefits, and $115 billion in new income tax credits for 95% of workers.
No Republicans voted for the legislation. The Senate may vote on the
bill Friday night.

This is good. The Senate Republicans will do pretty much the same with a
few exceptions. When the results start kicking in, the Republicans will
look even more obstructionist and lose more seats in 2010.
One wonders when the GOP will toss off the yokes of the religious right
and the neocons. They are destroying the party.
It was true bipartisanship, more Dems voted with the Repubs than othr
way round.
