Just what did the country do when moving west ? Build a road
to the river and build a town to support forging and going across
the river. At least that is going into a useful place.

One was built in El Paso when I was a kid and it went 90 miles
out into the desert. To prove it was ok the libs built a county
High School 20 miles from anyone. By the time the town got there
the school was old. And only kick outs and live outside of town
types went there....
