Hilarious.
Looks to me as if that dog has been badly mistreated by its masters. Not
surprising that two schitts like you think it humorous.
Actually, it's a recessive trait in some mix breed dogs and has to do
with peripherial vision. Oddly, while it seems overly aggressive, it
isn't - most dogs who exhibit this trait are just good ole' 'Merican
dogs - you just have to be careful around them when approaching from
the back or hind quarter area.
Gee, I didn't know that...thanks.
I rescued a racing greyhound that exhibited that behavior. Sweetest
nicest dog you could ask for, but she did that exact same thing from
time-to-time. Baffled me for quite a while and as somebody who likes
to fancy himself as a pretty damn good dog trainer annoyed the heck
out of me. Finally I took her to the Tufts clinic here in Woodstock
and explained the behavior - took the vet about two seconds to
diagnose it.
There's a name for it - can't remember it at the moment - getting old
you know, but I will before the day is out.
And before you ask, racing greyhounds are not the same as pure bred
greyhounds - they have been cross bred to produce lighter dogs with
different hindquarters for more acceleration. Put a racing greyhound
next to a pure bred and you will see the difference immediately.
