Rachel Maddow explained it pretty well. She said, "New York City is is
a place where ordinary citizens will see danger and run TOWARDS it.

All the first responders in this case were passenger ferrys and tour
boats, not emergency crews. Some were alongside the plane by the time
it stopped moving. Passengers on the ferrys assisted in getting people
aboard and giving their own clothing to try and warm up the extremely
cold and wet folks from the plane.


I only watch Ms. Maddow once or twice a week, but she is definitely the
cat's meow. I'd love to have dinner with her sometime.
