Default Vancouver island to Mexico

Jens,

The winds from BC to Mexico prevail from the NW but there are periodic
intense lows and gales. The winds brought by these lows and gales can be
from all directions. The current along the coast and well offshore

hundreds
of miles, (known as the California Current, reverses with the seasons. In
the winter the current runs north and in the summer it runs south. Winter
gales are far stronger than summer gales. It's also considerably colder in
the winter than in summer, a significant comfort factor offshore. Hence

for
comfort, minimal and less intense gales and more favorable currents, my
preference would be summer and I would avoid making the trip in winter.

Agreed and factor in the hurricane season in Mexico.

There are two routing plans. Inshore and Offshore. Some day-trip down the
coast in summer and others make a jump from BC direct to San Francisco or
further south. My preference is to gets one's *ss South to the butter melts
then slow down.
