Default Insurance question

So what was the problem with Boat/US? The consensus here seems to be that Boat/US is
pretty good - I've certainly had no problem with them, and neither have friends.

Some years ago I "met" Al Golden through the sailing list on Compuserve. He
convinced me that my Boat U/S policy was not the best way to go and got me
on with another company. All was well until I made the mistake of moving to
Florida and was rewarded with a policy cancellation. Al's office tried to
get me with another insurer but the cost was, for me, too high. Insurance
companites kept referring to Hurricane risk in Florida despite the fact that
the last hurricane to hit Pinellas county (Tampa Bay) was in 1921. New York
City has seen more hurricanes!

I then had to pay for another survey on my older boat and finally was able
to get a policy through Progressive. I didn't mind that their correspondence
kept referring to my boat as a car but I did mind when they doubled my
premiums the second year despite the fact that I have never filed a claim.
People now tell me that they are afraid to file claims because they may be
cancelled. I'd rather go without insurance which is what I've been doing for
the past five years.

There are no good insurance companies and you can be sure, if they sell you
a policy, they believe it to be in their interest, not yours.

Contact Al Golden at IMIS for a definitive answer. No business connection,
just a satisfied customer.

If I buy a boat for bluewater cruising can I get insurance for it when
sailing alone? Any ideas how much for 40ft sailboat 1984 worth about
90K. Sail out of Florida gulf.
Preparing for my dream.
