The banks are, of course, quite shallow, but the bottom drops off very dramatically. It
is over 1000 meters right next to many of the banks. Just north of Nassau it goes to 3600
meters. I wonder if they drill at an angle, so they get to oil that's under the banks?

But if the water is deep, they aren't on the Banks anymore - they are
in the Tongue of the Ocean or the Northwest Providence Channel or the
Straits of Florida.

interesting reading today in the nassau guardian

The Government on Tuesday at Buena Vista Restaurant signed an agreement with
Kerr McGee Bahamas Limited, for the exploration of natural gas and oil on the
Great Bahama Bank.

he Agreement provides for the company to drill in 3,000 to 6,000 or more feet
of water, making it the first venture that will explore in deep waters in The
Bahamas. The cost to Kerr McGee to dig a well would be $20 million to $25
million.

The Great Bahama Bank is very shallow. Where are they going that the
water is 3K to 6K deep?
