Hi All. Am new to even newsgroups. I am starting to look for an older boat
that I can liveaboard in comfort in my "retirement". I have been looking
for something in the 50K- range on the net, and have been pleasantly
surprised at what is available. I am, however, pretty ignorant about what
my "realistic" needs may be. I am going to need to move the boat to
Honduras where I have a little spit of land at the water. Anyone know how I
can hook up with people/groups that can sort of serve as mentors in this
endeavor? Thanks!
So long as you don't mind trusting Bozo the clown in a Wizard of
Oz costume, hiding in a blacked out telephone booth full of
scavenged batteries, meth addicts, TRS-80 parts, alligator clip
leads and acoustic couplers.
Jeeze, who do you confess to, Slimey the Python?
Trust nobody here!
Gybes aside, make sure you take lots of anchors and ropes,
radios, spare antennae, bottled water, sardines, and life jackets
with you.
If you intend to camp on your landspit, and live aboard while
constructing your little grass hut mansion, fishing for
sustenance and all that, don't forget to take (female?)
companionship along. Lonelyness kills.
I too live on a military pension. Will you be able to afford
clean water?
I would prefer a sailboat with a long range diesel engine,
Possibly an 'unsinkable' catamaran with a watermaker, scuba tank
filler, a good bailing bucket, and a sailable dinghy. Grow hemp
for the seed oil and fibre, it runs in diesel engines straight,
but don't smoke it, it will make you crazy.
They say aluminium hulls require the least mainteneance, and can
be repaired with stolen traffic signs, rivets and pitch.
Best wishes you colourful old retired Major sea dog, you. Wish I
were there. Need crew?
