In Southern slang, "to crawfish" is to walk backwards, like they often
do. When they sense danger, the crawfist retreats backwards into
hiding (as in beating a hasty retreat in a cowardly manner).


In 'real' southern slang, wouldn't they say 'crawdaddied'?
