Wife wants to upgrade from my 3 yr old HP R707 compact digital camera.
This camera works fine...although the original battery doesn't seem to
hold its charge as long anymore while sitting on the shelf.
Costco just happens to have a super price $270.00 CDN
for its popular Canon A650 IS compact.
I also see the Nikon D40 on sale here with lens at just under $500.00.
I can't justify the higher end SLRs...especially when they seem be be
somewhat obsolete every three or four years
vs the old manual film SLRs that were still fine after 20-25 years .My
usage these days is more snapshot than trying to be artistic...although
I do like to do justice to scenery.
Does she tell you when to buy new underwear, too? You live a pathetic
life, Donnie.
mmmm ....... the wife wants to buy me a new digital camera for Christmas.
Who am I to deny her that pleasure?
Make sure she buys you something that you will enjoy using. Not something
that you will have to learn to enjoy using. There is nothing worse than
having your wife buy you a new hobby that you have no interest in. I like
taking pictures, I don't like taking photographs. I don't like analyzing
light and aperture settings and all the rest of the camera stuff. I just
want to point and click.
I used to play around a bit. After I bought the Minolta SRT200 35mm SLR, I
enrolled in a Community College Photography Course where we larned the
basics, did a lot of b&w darkroom work and even some CibaChrome from colour
prints.
I guess I'm a middle roader, I want to do a little more than snapshots, but
not committed (or talented?) enough to attempt serious photography.
That's my dilemna in choosing a new camera..... convience (carry everywhere)
or flexibility.
Maybe a compact for Christmas and watch the winter sales for a lower end
DSLR.
