I tell you, it was like being in hell.
Waited at 2 different stations, maybe an hour in total.
Seemed like 17 hours.
Too late now but you can do it all on the telephone.
Not really. I did it via wesite and they wanted to see the dd214. Went
down and maybe 15 minutes, guy said not really needed, and told me how
much money you working stiffs were going to send me each month.
What does your DD 214 have to do with SS?

They can explain better than I:

In other words, don't bother.
This might be significant if you were in the military for most of your
life and didn't get to max out your SS taxes every year.
Most of us with a decent job probably paid the max FICA. The only
years I didn't was the first partial year I worked and the last
partial year before I retired. Since I was in the military during that
first year it might give me an extra dime a month in my check ;-)
I still can't go for my SS until my wife retires. She makes enough
money that would cause the IRS to confiscate my SS check. No sense in
not letting it accrue until I am 70 at this point..
I need to ask about it sometime. I suspect that I'm not eligible.
