.. Gaskets.

I ordered head gasket set from my local LaBorde seven weeks ago.. they
called today to say they have all the gaskets, apart from the head
gasket!

Apparently they order from head office in Chicago who wait till there
are enough orders to 'make up a box' before despatch. I was offered
'special delivery' as an extra but was also told at the time that they'd
all be in within 2 weeks, so I said to let it take its time. Silly me.

What a waste of wind on the lake..

Well, it is a sailboat, who needs a motor? I had the same problem with
Yanmar,, by the time the local authorized Yanmar repair people tracked
down all the bits they would need to fix my old YSE8, some eight weeks
had passed. Then they told me it would be about six and half grand, just
for parts. I decided to chuck the Yanmar and re-powered with a nice
shiny Volvo-Penta twin; more horsepower, quieter, smoother, better fuel
economy, bigger alternator, closed loop cooling, better emissions, and
cheaper...

Yanmar sucks, well they suck where I live..

Cheers

Six grand for parts? For a YSE8? I had one totally rebuilt for two grand.
But then, that was in 1985 or 6. Still...

I guess twenty years contributes a lot to rarity. I found most parts on
line at Torrens (sp?), but they would not sell me so much as a gasket, I
live outside their market area and Yanmar has a very protective policy.
