If Stevens doesn't quit before the upcoming election, it looks as if he
will lose. If somehow Palin appointed herself to that seat, she'd be a
really interesting and colorful senator, and would be about as effective
as Elizabeth Dole.

Actually he is still very popular and more then likely will be
reelected. His lifelong accomplishments have enriched Alaska. His
perfidy while corrupt and unacceptable has harmed no one. Alaska still
wants his seniority and political power.
