For about what AOL charges you can have your own web site.

I am currently buying/operating the site for our whole community and
it is only $39 a month. That is 400 gig of FTP space 400 mailboxes,
SQL support and a bunch of stuff we probably will never use. We are
thinking about cutting this in half.

For about $60/year you can have your own domain and website at
GoDaddy.com

Those of you who have long term AOL e-mail addresses; you can cancel
your AOL account but keep your e-mail for free, in fact I haven't
really used AOL in years and found out that they were holding my
access for me for free........as long as I access it thru my own DSL
account. I don't know how or why but I can access all of AOL and it's
free.
HTH.

Same way with me, Bud. I got a hold of a local ISP which is really
pretty fast, and that's when AOL and I parted ways. I still have all
access to AOL (as if i cared to)

I don't access AOL very often, because it usually drags and is slow,
and they have to occasionally erase their overload of "artwork"

I suppose AOL was ok in the dial up days, but they didn't have very
many local access points, and their system was usually clogged by
overselling accounts. it took forever to download some minor stuff,
and if somebody sent you a link to a website, it could knock you
offline. plus they had time limits on how long you could be online.

unless they can come up with something magic, I wouldn't doubt if in a
year or so they didn't head down the tooooobz
